South Africa (SA) is unlikely to meet the United Nations’ (UN) 2030 education targets, according to the SA National Commission for UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
The commission cites poverty, limited resources, high dropout rates and inadequate funding for disadvantaged learners as major barriers to inclusive, quality education.
The challenges were highlighted at the launch of the 2026 Global Education Monitoring Report at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape Province, on Tuesday.
