SADC partners with Russia to boost industrialisation and technical capacity

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Russian Federation have signed a multi-year action plan in Moscow to deepen economic, technical, and security co-operation across the region.

The agreement was signed by SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi on the sidelines of the third Russia-Africa Summit. It establishes a formal framework to implement the broader Memorandum of Understanding on relations and co-operation between the 16-member regional bloc and Moscow.

Under the new plan, both parties will expand institutional ties across key economic sectors, including agriculture, food security, trade, energy, mining, transport, and digital technology. The roadmap also prioritises joint initiatives in education, healthcare, and human capital development, while strengthening collaboration on peace, security, and regional integration.

The signing signals a concerted effort by SADC member states to broaden external economic partnerships and leverage Russian technical support to advance regional industrialisation and infrastructure goals.
