Kenya’s inflation rose in October
Kenya’s inflation rose in October to its highest level in more ‌than three years due to a faster rate of price increases of food items, transport and housing, the statistics office said on Friday.
Inflation was 7.3% year-on-year in October from 6.8% a month earlier, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement.
The last time the year-on-year inflation was at this level was in July 2023, when it stood at 7.3%.
Kenya’s government aims to keep inflation in ‌a range of 2.5% to 7.5% in the medium term.
The statistics office said the rise in inflation was driven by a rise in prices of items in food and non-alcoholic beverages (10.2%), transport (17.1%), and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (3.7%) over the one-year period.
The three categories comprise 57% of the total weight across the 13 major expenditure categories, the statistics office said.
