The criminal case against Zimbabwean businessperson Lawrence Mudzinganyama, accused of intimidating and assaulting women at a Johannesburg restaurant in South Africa (SA), is expected to return to the Randburg Magistrate’s Court next Friday for a key decision on his prosecution.
The court is scheduled to hear the outcome of representations submitted by Mudzinganyama’s legal team to the Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, seeking a review or withdrawal of the charges against him.
Mudzinganyama faces a slate of serious charges, including three counts of intimidation, three counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and one count of fraud.
The state’s charges arise from an incident at the Vlamo Restaurant in Randburg last month. Prosecutors allege that the accused unlawfully entered the women’s restroom and aggressively demanded to take photographs of one of the patrons. He is further alleged to have verbally abused three witnesses and threatened them with physical violence and death.
