Around six million refugee children worldwide are out of school
Around six million refugee children worldwide are out of school, depriving them of access to education and limiting their opportunities for a better future.
The lack of education not only affects the children themselves but also has far-reaching consequences for their families and communities.
At the United Nations (UN) General Assembly’s Sustainable Development Goals Media Zone, Goodwill Ambassador Mary Maker and UN refugee agency Chief Barham Salih discussed the challenges preventing refugee children from accessing quality education and the urgent need for practical solutions.
Both speakers drew on their personal experiences of growing up in refugee camps, sharing insights into the difficulties displaced children face in pursuing their education.
In a discussion with Arab News UN correspondent Ephrem Kossaify, they reflected on the importance of expanding access to education, addressing barriers faced by refugee learners and ensuring that no child is left behind because of displacement.
