The South African Police Service (SAPS) says it is maintaining heightened security operations following Wednesday’s Local Government Elections.
This follows as the Independent Electoral Commission continues counting and verifying votes across the country.
Briefing the media at the Results Operations Centre, Chairperson and Deputy National Commissioner for Policing, Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili, says police are deployed at all 23 000 voting stations.
She added that law enforcement agencies responded to several criminal incidents during the special and general voting periods.
