Clean water supplies run low for displaced civilians at Bunia ISP Camp in eastern DRC

Roughly 16 000 displaced people taking shelter at the ISP camp in Bunia, Ituri Province, are facing a growing health emergency as clean drinking water supplies run dangerously low across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The severe shortage has sparked fears of rapid waterborne disease outbreaks, particularly cholera, in the cramped settlement, where basic sanitation has broken down under heavy humanitarian strain.

Journalist Abedi Jean de la Croix noted that families have been left with little choice but to draw from contaminated water sources, warning that the crisis at the ISP camp in Bunia has reached a breaking point that puts nearly 16 000 displaced residents at immediate risk of a devastating outbreak of waterborne illnesses without urgent intervention.

De la Croix added that camp leaders and local activists are pressing international relief agencies and municipal authorities to immediately restart water deliveries and fix broken supply lines before the outbreak risks worsen.
