The Championships run from September 25 to 28, with morning heats starting at 8:30 CAT and evening finals at 17:00 CAT. The 33-year-old former Olympic champion is making his comeback after an extended break to recover from a back injury. He will represent KwaZulu-Natal as he prepares for one of the World Cup series meets in Carmel, Indiana, with his next major target being the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Also competing in Pietermaritzburg this week are world junior 200m butterfly champion Kris Mihaylov and Jessica Thompson, who narrowly missed a medal by two hundredths of a second in the 50m backstroke at a recent event in Romania.
