The new agreement introduces several improvements to pilots’ working conditions. Under the deal, pilots will now receive at least one 60-hour weekend off in every six-week cycle and will be guaranteed a minimum of nine weekends off per year. The agreement also gives pilots the flexibility to exchange shifts among themselves.
In terms of pay, the deal includes a 6% salary increase in the first year, followed by a 6.5% rise in the second year. For the final two years of the agreement, pilots will receive just under 7% annual increases.
Helgard Cronjé, Spokesperson for the Solidarity union, welcomed the outcome, saying it reflected a fair compromise after nearly two weeks of industrial action. The strike, which disrupted domestic flights and affected thousands of passengers, was the first major labour dispute faced by FlySafair since its launch.
