South African (SA) take-home salaries remained largely unchanged in June, following three consecutive months of moderation, according to the latest data from BankservAfrica.

The average nominal take-home pay was recorded at $965 000 in June 2025, a marginal 0.1% decline from the $966 000 reported in May. Despite the slight dip, salaries have seen a notable year-on-year increase compared to the June 2024 average of $15 514.

Independent economist Elize Kruger noted that although salary earners appear to be in a slightly better financial position in the first half of 2025, the country’s broader economic outlook remains fragile.

“While salary earners are in a somewhat better space, the economic environment has deteriorated in recent months. Uncertainty has led to declining confidence and delayed investment decisions,” Kruger warned. “This could negatively affect economic activity in the second half of the year, potentially impacting both employment levels and earning prospects.”
