The past year in the digital space has been fascinating, especially for anyone running a business.
Your online presence can either make or break your organisation. How you present yourself publicly determines whether people believe in you or not.
Recently, there was a lot of buzz about Kanye West returning to South Africa (SA) for a one-night-only show this December. A poster was shared on X, listing the concert as part of his world tour at Ellis Park. The event is said to be organised by Monyake Group, and fans were encouraged to register for tickets via Ticket Pro. Naturally, people were excited, but the timing was interesting because of Kanye’s recent controversies online.
Despite the announcement, not everyone was convinced the concert would actually happen. Social media opinions were split in half, largely because Monyake Group had limited digital presence, no operational website, and no Ticket Pro confirmation. Kanye himself hadn’t promoted it on Instagram.
The Upside gave Group a fair chance to explain. Sam Monyake, Founder and Promoter of Monyake Group, explained that, yes, the announcement is legitimate. Kanye West himself confirmed he will perform in SA on December 13. Any doubts were due to the limited online footprint of Monyake Group, but the group has been active as event promoters for almost a decade, mainly in the gospel music sector, bringing both local and international acts.
Regarding controversy, Monyake said the team didn’t rely solely on their gospel brand to promote the event. They have experience with secular shows and the resources to host a high-profile concert like Kanye’s. He added that top-tier stadiums in SA are limited, and Ellis Park was chosen for its capacity, safety record, and ability to handle events of this magnitude.
