Khulekani Mthethwa, brother of South Africa’s (SA) late Ambassador to France says the two elders who will accompany Nathi Mthethwa’s remains from France to SA have not yet left. The two elders are expected to leave with the national delegation to perform rituals of bringing back his spirit according to African beliefs. Addressing the media, Mthethwa says he cannot divulge the exact date of the repatriation. However, he says plans are afoot to ensure that the family is afforded this opportunity. The ambassador died after falling from the 22nd floor of a hotel in Paris last week. Mthethwa says the important rituals are usually performed in most of the African cultures when someone dies away from home
“His spirit left his body in another place. that is why we believe as the family we should bring back home not just his remains, but his spirit so he can rest in peace. We will then return home. I cannot say the exact date but all plans are in place for our elders to travel to France,” Mthethwa.
