The association is hosting its two-day annual conference in Johannesburg under the theme, “Innovation and the Future of Healthcare Provision.” The discussions focus on improving healthcare leadership, innovation, and the use of technology to transform the sector.

HASA has taken the government to court over the National Health Insurance (NHI), arguing that in its current form, the policy is neither sustainable nor affordable. The association maintains that cooperation between both sectors is essential to achieve equitable healthcare for all South Africans.

HASA Chief Executive Officer, Dumisani Bomela says the organisation’s next steps will be guided by what benefits patients the most. “Our forecast, like I said earlier, is  what does this all mean to the patient? Our next steps, and what should be done, are going to be defined by that. We are now seeking to get closer to other stakeholders and reach out to government to see how we can all contribute towards achieving the goals of universal health access,” he said.
