Cape Town, South Africa (SA), has turned into the capital of African storytelling this week as creatives from across film, music, fashion, and digital animation gather for Fame Week Africa.
The annual trade event connects local talent with international buyers and streaming platforms, but the real energy this year is centered around fresh, inclusive spaces for creators. Highlights include the African Women Entertainment Breakfast and the Inclusive Lens initiative, which creates a pitching platform specifically for filmmakers living with disabilities.
“For so long, women have been asking for a seat at the table,” says Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director at Fame Week Africa. “For us, it’s now basically saying, forget that, build your own tables, build your own industries.”
The cultural spotlight isn’t just staying in Cape Town, though. Up in Limpopo province, the Ndlovu Youth Choir is celebrating another massive international leap. Their collaboration with legendary Queen drummer Roger Taylor on his single “Violent Insane in a Beautiful World” has officially been submitted for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards in the United States.
Entered in both the Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance categories, the track blends the SA choir’s powerful vocal arrangements with classic British rock, proving once again that African soundscapes can cross into any genre on the global stage.
