Some songs never fade, they simply keep finding new audiences. That is certainly true of Sipho Hotstix Mabuse’s classic Burn Out, a track that still fills dance floors across Southern Africa, from Soweto to neighbouring countries. Decades after its release, the song remains part of the continent’s cultural soundtrack, blending nostalgia, rhythm and emotional storytelling.
Mabuse is preparing to headline the Unity Soweto Concert 2026 at Orlando Stadium, a venue steeped in South Africa’s (SA) musical and political heritage. The performance is expected to celebrate unity, youth culture and musical legacy, bringing together artists and fans across generations.
Reflecting on Burn Out, Mabuse says the song was inspired by personal heartbreak, but like many great hits, it grew into something far bigger than its original story. He explains that music often captures life experiences, turning emotion into sound that people can relate to for years.
Beyond the stage, the legendary musician is also known for his discipline and reinvention, famously completing his matric qualification at the age of 60. He credits his work ethic to his upbringing and to the early influence of family and community values.
