Mahotella Queens celebrate 62-Year milestone

Legendary South African (SA) mbaqanga group, the Mahotella Queens, are marking 62 years of musical excellence with a special Women’s Month performance set for this Sunday at the Untitled Basement in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

Speaking on drive-time show, The Upside, founding member Mam’ Hilda Tloubatla reflected on the group’s landmark 62-year journey. She expressed deep appreciation to SA audiences for supporting their music over six decades, which carried their signature sound to stages across the world.

The shows form part of the group’s Buyele’khaya Tour, supported by the Mzansi Golden Economy fund. Following recent international performances in Japan, the national tour aims to reconnect the group with its home fanbase, with additional dates planned for Cape Town and Durban.

The veteran group continues to nurture a new generation of talent, with member Amanda Nkosi and new addition Nqobile Njapa stepping up to preserve the group’s iconic vocal harmonies and energetic stage routines.
