Delegates at the inaugural West Africa Regional Water Forum in Cotonou, Benin, have adopted a unified regional agenda aimed at accelerating water security and sustainable management across member states.
Organised by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the summit brought together government ministers, regional experts, and development partners to address climate resilience, transboundary basin management, and clean water access.
Delegations formally designated Cabo Verde as the host country for the upcoming second edition of the West Africa Regional Water Forum.
Regional leaders pointed out that cross-border co-operation and joint infrastructure investments remain critical to overcoming growing water scarcity challenges, mitigating climate risks, and ensuring long-term food and economic security across West Africa.
