The Activists and Citizens Forum have urged South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa and Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia to immediately remove all SA police officers implicated in corruption during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The commission, which is holding its hearings in Pretoria, is investigating claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Allegations include corruption among senior police officials, interference in policing operations, and links between some officials and criminal syndicates, with Minister Senzo Mchunu also named.
Forum Spokesperson Dennis Bloem said the allegations should be taken seriously.
“It would be grossly irresponsible for the President and Acting Police Minister to treat these claims lightly or wait for the commission’s final report before acting,” Bloem said.
He added; “The alarming revelations before the Madlanga Commission and the parliamentary ad hoc committee show not only infiltration of the criminal justice system, but effectively its capture by sophisticated criminal gangs and certain politicians.”
