Saba Saba 2026 focuses on ending enforced disappearances in Kenya

The Social Justice Centers Working Group has issued a powerful call for national accountability, urging Kenyan citizens to unite under the banner of Saba Saba 2026 to defend the Constitution and demand an end to police impunity.

Marked annually on July 7, Saba Saba historically commemorates the 1990 struggle for multi-party democracy in Kenya. However, civil society groups emphasize that this year’s focus is firmly on securing justice for victims of recent abductions, unlawful killings, and enforced disappearances.

Human rights advocates highlighted that families in vulnerable, informal settlements, including Mathare, Mukuru, Kibera, and Korogocho, continue to bear the heaviest brunt of security-force violence and state impunity. The group is demanding swift, transparent, and entirely independent investigations into all missing persons cases to rebuild fractured public trust in national law enforcement.
