The ceremony marked the official start of Monyau’s mandate and was hosted by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, who accepted the letter on behalf of the government.
Kombo described the AfDB as a trusted and valued development partner, commending its long‑standing contribution to Tanzania’s socio‑economic transformation. He emphasised the importance of sustaining close collaboration as the country accelerates its development agenda, particularly in infrastructure, energy and productive industries.
He congratulated Monyau on her appointment and expressed confidence in her leadership, highlighting her previous experience as the Bank’s Country Manager in Sudan.
In her remarks, Monyau reaffirmed the Bank Group’s commitment to Tanzania and highlighted the strategic alignment of its operations with the country’s Vision 2050. She said the Bank’s engagement focuses on sustainable infrastructure development, quality education, accelerated industrialisation and strengthened institutions to support economic diversification.
She also underscored the synergy between Tanzania’s Vision 2050 and the AfDB President Dr Sidi Ould Tah’s Four Cardinal Points for Africa’s development, noting that this alignment would continue to guide investment priorities.
Monyau said the Bank’s infrastructure investments will further enhance regional integration, improve connectivity and competitiveness, and boost income and employment opportunities. She added that continued support for natural resource governance would help maximise benefits from Tanzania’s extractive industries.
The AfDB’s cumulative commitments to Tanzania now exceed $9.5 billion across 167 projects, reflecting a strong and sustained development partnership. The Bank’s active portfolio currently stands at about $4 billion across 30 operations, covering transport, energy, agriculture, water and sanitation, health and finance.
