The AfDB Group’s sovereign portfolio scored 98.8 out of 100 in the 2026 Aid Transparency Index released by Publish What You Fund in London.
The Bank ranked first among 33 institutions assessed.
The Inter-American Development Bank and World Bank International Development Association shared second place with scores of 97.1.
The ranking recognises the AfDB Group’s publication of timely, comprehensive and high-quality open data on public-sector projects and financial flows. “The AfDB’s continued leadership in aid transparency demonstrates its strong commitment to openness and accountability,” Publish What You Fund Chief Executive Gary Forster said.
Forster said improvements to the Bank’s website and data dashboards had made information more accessible and useful to stakeholders.
The Bank retained the same score recorded in 2024, despite changes in leadership, management and strategic direction.
The unchanged result indicated that transparency had become part of routine institutional systems rather than a temporary campaign.
The Bank also ranked first in the 2022 and 2024 editions of the Index.
Over the same period, the average score among institutions assessed in both editions declined from 62.7 to 62.1. “Transparency is currency. It enables us to deliver the transformation that Africa needs,” AfDB Group President Dr Sidi Ould Tah said.
“Better information strengthens accountability, enabling countries to make better decisions. It gives investors greater confidence and allows scarce development resources to work smarter.”
The Bank applies the same approach to Mission 300, the joint initiative with the World Bank seeking to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030.
Mission 300 results are published and updated quarterly through a dedicated public dashboard.
The Bank’s MapAfrica platform provides information on 6 000 projects across more than 18 500 locations.
Users can examine project objectives, implementation progress and results alongside appraisal and supervision documents.
The Institutional Support for the Sustainability of Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Service Delivery Project in Angola has approximately 60 publicly available documents.
The Bank said the disclosure demonstrated a commitment to providing complete, accessible and timely information throughout project implementation.
