The Africa Centres for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention Africa CDC has welcomed South Africa’s (SA)  $2.5 million contribution to bolster Ebola response efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

The funding, channelled through the Africa Epidemics Fund, will support surveillance, laboratory systems, rapid response teams and cross-border preparedness.

Africa CDC praised SA President Cyril Ramaphosa, the people and government of SA, saying the contribution sends a strong message of continental solidarity as Africa confronts growing public health threats.

The agency is urging other African states, donors and private partners to follow SA’s lead.

Meanwhile, Uganda is set to receive a team of Russian specialists to support its Ebola response.

It’s a move that underscores both the urgency of the outbreak and the growing role of international help in the country’s public health strategy.
