Africa is making significant progress in expanding access to electricity

The World Bank says Africa is making significant progress in expanding access to electricity, with 50 million people already connected under the Mission 300 initiative.

South Africa (SA) is hosting the Africa Energy Forum in Cape Town, Western Cape Province.

Addressing delegates World Bank Group President Ajay Banga said the continent is now connecting people to power at nearly twice the rate seen before the programme began.

He credited African governments, development partners and private investors for driving reforms and investments aimed at providing electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030.
