African nations must prioritise internal redemption, political unity, and economic self-reliance if the continent is to successfully break free from its historical dependence on former colonial powers and international financial institutions.

That is the view of Political Scientist and conflict resolution expert Dr David Matsanga, who argues that a fundamental shift in governance and resource management is required across Africa.

Speaking on Rise and Shine, Matsanga highlighted what he described as an accelerating, continent-wide movement towards reclaiming national sovereignty, economic independence, and cultural heritage.

Commenting on joint initiatives by West African nations, including Ghana and Nigeria, to demand the repatriation of looted artefacts and treasures housed in European museums, he emphasised that centuries-old legal and moral claims are finally catching up with former colonial authorities.

According to Matsanga, the push for the restitution of cultural heritage is part of a broader struggle for African dignity and strategic autonomy in an increasingly complex global geopolitical landscape.
