South African (SA) National Petroleum Company Chief Executive Officer, Godfrey Moagi, has highlighted Africa’s urgent energy challenges, calling for strategic partnerships to unlock opportunities and drive sustainable growth.

Speaking on the opening day of the 5th annual African Energy Week 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Moagi warned against complacency, citing South Africa’s electricity struggles as a lesson for the broader continent.

“SA went through a difficult time with electricity, and what we cannot afford is actually going into fuel shedding. We need to avoid it. Africa and SA are energy-hungry. We’ve got big opportunities coming our way, and we cannot lose that,” he said.

Moagi argued that Africa offers attractive investment potential, pointing to a diversified economy, progressive markets, and emerging growth sectors. He emphasised that unlocking Africa’s energy future will require collaboration between governments, private sector players, and international partners to ensure long-term sustainability.

The four-day conference brings together policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to shape solutions for Africa’s energy transition while ensuring energy security for its growing population.
