Africa’s Travel Indaba continues in South Africa’s (SA), Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, on its second day, with the trade floor buzzing with activity as exhibitors, tourism officials, and businesses from across the continent engage on partnerships and opportunities to grow tourism in Africa.
Delegates attending the event say collaboration, infrastructure development, and access to information remain key to unlocking the continent’s tourism potential.
The exhibition floor at Africa’s Travel Indaba was filled with delegates from across the continent, all looking to strengthen partnerships and exchange ideas on growing tourism in Africa.
Angola’s Secretary of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Dr Augusto Kalikemala, says the event offers African countries a chance to learn from one another instead of competing.
Doctor Augusto Kalikemala, Secretary of State Ministry of Tourism Angola: “It’s an opportunity for partnerships. We want to find the right partnership to help us develop our tourism. And it’s a great place because we find the people that struggle the same as we. So, it’s important to know what Namibia is doing, what is Malawi doing, what is SA doing.
And we need to learn with them because we are at one point that we are not competing with ourselves, but we can collaborate, we can learn from what Namibia, Kenya, South Africa is doing and do the same and develop our tourism because we are a small country in tourism now and we need to learn.”
Kalikemala says improving infrastructure across the continent is also critical in making tourism destinations more accessible and attractive to visitors.
