Air France has permanently terminated its flight operations in Mali

Air France has permanently terminated its flight operations in Mali, citing a toxic combination of escalating political tensions and severe regional security challenges.

The exit of the major international carrier marks a visible low point in the diplomatic fallout between Bamako’s military administration and Paris, further isolating the Sahelian nation from European transport links.

While Mali has cut ties with former colonial power France, regional commentators argue that maintaining transport infrastructure should transcend geopolitical spats. Political analyst Dr David Matsanga expressed deep regret over the total shutdown, calling on Malian authorities to balance their anti-imperialist stance with practical international diplomacy.

“It is a very sad day,” Matsanga remarked. “If you have not refused the language they speak, why do you close the airline? Malian leadership needs to balance non-alignment. While they are genuine Pan-Africans, they must catch things slowly and maintain a semblance of connection while remaining vigilant against imperial maneuvers.”
