MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena says his team’s focus is on results, not sightseeing, as they prepare for a decisive CAF Champions League clash.
The Algerian side take on Sudan’s Al Hilal tonight in a must-win group stage match to keep their hopes of reaching the next round alive. Next week, MC Alger will travel to South Africa (SA) to face Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria in their final group fixture.
MC Alger are level on four points with Democratic Republic of Congo’s St Eloi Lupopo and sit just one point behind SA’s Sundowns, making tonight’s encounter critical.
Mokwena said his players must show resilience and determination.
“The spirit of perseverance, the spirit of not giving up, the spirit of honesty and integrity, we are hoping to carry that spirit for 90 minutes and give ourselves the chance to qualify for the next round with a trip to SA,” he said.
He added humorously that the trip south would be strictly business.
“Otherwise, it would be nice to take the players on a safari. I don’t want to take the players to meet my parents in SA. I want to go to SA to get three points. Whether or not we go on the safari to get three points depends on what happens tomorrow.”
