Amnesty International has called on candidates vying for the presidency in Zambia to commit to reversing a growing pattern of authoritarian practices threatening human rights.
In a statement, the organisation says Zambia has a history of fast-tracking legislation that affects civic space.
The organisation also stated that the lawmakers are recently debating, amending and passing large numbers of bills within days of elections.
Amnesty has urged authorities to end the repression of dissent and independent media and ensure that laws affecting civic space are developed through transparent, inclusive and meaningful public consultations.
