The party, part of the ruling government of national unity, said the mayoral candidate announcement on Saturday will introduce the leaders selected to carry out the ANC’s mandate in municipalities across the country.
The party said that the announcement forms part of its efforts to present communities with leadership that is prepared to strengthen local government, rebuild public confidence and improve service delivery.
According to the party, the selected candidates will be tasked with advancing the ANC’s vision of capable, accountable and responsive municipalities.
The launch of the ANC’s 2026 Local Government Elections Manifesto will take place the following day, on Sunday.
The manifesto is expected to outline the party’s plans for local governance, service delivery, economic development and community upliftment.
The ANC said the document is informed by extensive consultations with communities, as well as an assessment of progress made in implementing commitments contained in the party’s 2021 Local Government Elections Manifesto.
The manifesto will also set out the ANC’s priorities for addressing challenges facing municipalities and improving the quality of life of South Africans.
