This follows speculation of attempts to oust Ramaphosa after the G20 Leaders Summit.
South African (SA) party, the African National Congress (ANC) is adamant that its leadership, including SA President Cyril Ramaphosa, will complete its term in 2027.
This follows speculation of attempts to oust Ramaphosa after the G20 Leaders Summit.
A letter is reported to be circulating among senior ANC members in the Eastern Cape province, calling for the removal of the ANC’s President.
It also says the National Excecutive Committee (NEC) should be disbanded and replaced with a national task team, which former ANC President Thabo Mbeki should lead.
Ramaphosa’s closing remarks to the ANC NEC meeting on Sunday were closed to the media, fuelling speculation that he wanted to address the matter candidly.
Acting ANC Spokesperson Nonceba Mhlauli says, “As far as we are concerned, there is no departure lounge in the NEC. This NEC, with Ramaphosa, was elected in December 2022 and our term ends in December 2027 and our term will end with Ramaphosa as the president of the ANC, where he will then be handing over.”
Mhlauli adds, “There is no departure lounge, Ramaphosa is the President of the ANC and his term ends in 2027 in the ANC and whatever other rumours we cannot speak for or verify for any other reason.”
