Angola welcomes the MD of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva

Angola welcomes the Managing Director (MD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, on Wednesday for an official two-day visit, at a pivotal moment for the country’s economy.

Her itinerary includes meetings with government officials, business leaders, and students, as the IMF continues to flag ongoing challenges such as Angola’s dependence on oil, high debt repayments, inflation, and the pressing need to diversify the economy.

Dr Lutumba Simão, an Angolan Economist, said; “This visit comes at a time when Angola must make difficult but necessary economic choices. Engaging with the IMF could help strengthen policies to reduce debt pressures and stimulate broader growth beyond the oil sector.”
