Angola’s President João Lourenço has called for a ceasefire between the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the M23 rebels, set to start on February 18.
Speaking in his capacity as Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Lourenço voiced support for mediation efforts aimed at ending the fighting in eastern DRC.
The appeal for a ceasefire follows continued clashes that have displaced communities and disrupted daily life. AU-led talks are seeking to bring the sides together and secure a path to peace.
