Angola’s President João Lourenço is on a three-day state visit to Algeria at the invitation of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as the two countries seek to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
Angola and Algeria have maintained relations since 1976 and are regarded as key players on the African continent, particularly on issues linked to peace, security and regional development.
The visit is expected to focus on expanding cooperation in sectors such as energy, trade and defence, while also reinforcing political coordination between Luanda and Algiers.
Political analyst Jose Gama said the visit reflects a growing push by African nations to build stronger strategic partnerships within the continent.
“Both Angola and Algeria are important regional actors, and this visit shows a willingness to deepen co-operation not only economically, but also on matters affecting peace and stability in Africa,” Gama said.
He added that closer collaboration between the two countries could help strengthen Africa’s voice on international issues while opening up new opportunities for investment and development.
