Athletics South Africa (ASA) is set to undertake a countrywide search for emerging marathon runners to strengthen both the men’s and women’s divisions, according to road running Chairperson Enock Skosana.
The announcement comes after a challenging outing at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September, where Elroy Gelant was SA’s sole representative in the marathon.
Skosana said the initiative aims to broaden the talent pool and uncover promising athletes who are prepared to commit to representing the nation on the international stage. “It’s time to find athletes willing to step up and put their country first,” he said.
The programme will focus on nurturing young runners and building depth in SA’s marathon teams ahead of next year’s key competitions.
