South Africa’s (SA) Department of Home Affairs says a group of 278 asylum seekers and people with refugee status are being moved from Durban’s KwaZulu-Natal to the Lindela repatriation camp in Krugersdorp West of Johannesburg, Gauteng Province today.
Home Affairs Spokesperson Ndileka Cola says this comes after a series of discussions with representatives of the group.
They all have been living on the street outside a Home Affairs office for almost four months.
The group has been demanding to be moved to a refugee camp for safety reasons following alleged intimidation and attacks on them amid protests against undocumented foreign nationals in May and June.
