At least six Bangladeshi peacekeepers have been killed and eight others injured during an attack on a United Nations (UN) base in Abyei, Sudan

The Bangladesh army confirms that the situation in the area remains unstable and clashes with terrorists are ongoing. In a statement, the authorities say they are doing their best to provide medical treatment for those who are injured and to conduct rescue operations. Bangladesh is one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions, with its troops deployed in Abyei, a volatile region disputed between Sudan and South Sudan.
