AU envoy holds talks in Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau’s transitional President, Horta Inta-a, hosted the African Union’s (AU) special envoy for the country’s political crisis, former São Tomé and Príncipe Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada, for high-level talks.

The meeting comes on the heels of a nationwide referendum that saw voters approve a new constitution, a key milestone as the West African nation continues to navigate the transitional path set off by last November’s military coup.

Weighing in on the visit, Lawyer and PoliticalAnalyst Dr Fransual Dias pointed out that the AU’s presence is a crucial signal. In his view, maintaining direct contact with continental leadership will be essential if Guinea-Bissau is to secure international backing, stabilise its governance, and move steadily toward democratic elections.
