Mohammed Ali Yusuf, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, has called on African nations to prioritise the strengthening of regional trade corridors as part of efforts to accelerate development across the continent.
Speaking at the 3rd Summit on Financing for Infrastructure Development in Africa in Angola, Ali Yusuf stressed the importance of moving beyond traditional financing approaches. He encouraged the creation of robust financial instruments that promote collaboration among African countries.
“We must strengthen our collective corridors. While standard financing remains useful, it should not be the main driver of our development. Africa must shift from a logic of assistance to one of alliance,” he said.
The summit has brought together policymakers, investors, and experts to discuss innovative ways to fund infrastructure projects, with the aim of fostering sustainable growth and deeper regional integration.
