Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission, conveyed the message on behalf of the continental body, acknowledging the significance of the occasion for the government and people of Eritrea.
Youssouf said the anniversary reflects the resilience and determination demonstrated by Eritreans in pursuit of sovereignty. Youssouf said the milestone also represents ongoing efforts to advance national development and stability.
The AU reiterated its commitment to continued engagement with Eritrea across a range of areas. These include cooperation on peace and security, regional integration and economic development.
Youssouf said collaboration between Eritrea and the African Union remains important for promoting stability across the Horn of Africa and the broader continent. The statement highlighted shared priorities among member states aimed at strengthening regional cooperation frameworks.
The AU Commission also emphasised the importance of partnerships in addressing common challenges facing the region, including development, governance and economic growth.
