The African Union’s (AU) Specialised Technical Committee on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment is meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The 11th Ordinary Session, taking place this week, will review progress on gender equality, consider the adoption of the 2025 Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa Report, advance calls for ratification of the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, and adopt an acceleration strategy for the Women and Youth Financial and Economic Inclusion Initiative.
It brings together gender Ministers, AU organs, regional blocs and United Nations agencies, and will also prepare Africa’s common position ahead of the 71st Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW71) and its bid to host CSW74.
