AU offers condolences to Tanzanian President following death of husband

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has extended his deepest condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Ameir Hassan, Tanzania’s First Gentleman, passed away this Monday morning at the age of 76 while receiving medical treatment for a heart condition. In an official diplomatic statement issued from the continental body’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, Youssouf expressed solidarity with Samia, her family, and the government and people of the United Republic of Tanzania during this period of national mourning.

The late academic and agricultural specialist married President Samia in 1978 and maintained a private, supportive role throughout her public service career.
