African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has expressed deep sadness and offered formal condolences to the government and people of Zimbabwe following the tragic Lake Kariba boat accident.

In an official statement issued this Wednesday, Youssouf extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the capsizing. He reaffirmed the continental body’s solidarity with Zimbabwe during this difficult period of national mourning.

The statement follows an ongoing search and recovery operation on Lake Kariba, where the official death toll has risen to 93 after additional bodies were retrieved by emergency services and defense units.
