AU praises eSwatini peace efforts ahead of regional security leadership role

The African Union (AU) Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional peace-building initiatives, praising the Kingdom of eSwatini for its active role in maintaining stability across Southern Africa.

Speaking during a bilateral meeting with eSwatini Prime Minister Russell Dlamini in Angola this Sunday, AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf commended the kingdom’s proactive involvement in regional security mechanisms.

The high-level talks on the sidelines of the Extraordinary African Union Assembly come as eSwatini prepares to assume leadership of the Southern African Development Community Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Co-operation, the primary regional body tasked with managing peace missions and electoral observation.

Dlamini welcomed the continental body’s support, emphasising that close alignment between regional blocs and the central AU architecture remains essential for tackling emerging security threats.
