The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has called for stronger African-led responses to conflict during high-level talks with international partners on the sidelines of the Sudan conference in Berlin.
Youssouf held bilateral meetings with senior officials from Europe and the United States, with discussions centred on peace and security across the continent, particularly the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
The talks also explored the wider economic impact of global tensions, including developments in the Persian Gulf, on African economies and stability.
Youssouf emphasised the need for coordinated multilateral efforts, while reaffirming the importance of African-owned solutions in resolving conflicts on the continent.
There was also agreement on the need for more predictable and sustainable support for AU peace operations, alongside efforts to strengthen the bloc’s institutional effectiveness.
