The Lungu family turned to the SCA.

The battle over the remains of the late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu is heading to the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA).

This as the appellate court, in an order dated Tuesday, December 23, 2025, has granted the Lungu family leave to appeal.

The Lungu family turned to the SCA after a full bench of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria ruled that Zambia is entitled to repatriate former President Edgar Lungu for the purposes of a State funeral & Burial.

Lungu passed away on 5 June 2025 at a hospital in Pretoria, South Africa.
