BMW South Africa (SA) and Opel Astra SA are recalling a number of vehicles after identifying potential safety issues with seat belts and driver airbag inflators.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has confirmed it received recall notifications from both companies. According to the commission’s Phetho Ntaba, BMW is recalling 75 vehicles, including 1 Series, 2 Series, X1, and X2 models, because one of the seat belts may not have been manufactured correctly.

Stellantis SA, which produces Opel vehicles, is recalling Astra H models made between 2004 and 2006 and Astra J models from 2009 to 2015. The recall is due to the driver’s airbag inflator, which could rupture during deployment.

The NCC urged vehicle owners to act promptly if their car is affected. “It is imperative that consumers respond immediately when they discover their vehicles are part of a recall,” Ntaba said.
