The government of Botswana has announced funeral arrangements for former President Festus Gontebanye Mogae.

Mogae will lie in state at Parliament in Gaborone on Wednesday, May 13, from 6:00 CAT until 18:00 CAT, giving members of the public an opportunity to pay their final respects.

The former Botswana leader will be buried in Gaborone on Saturday, May 16.

Mogae, who served as Botswana’s president from 1998 to 2008, was widely respected for his role in strengthening the country’s economy and democratic institutions. His passing has prompted tributes from across Africa and the international community.
