Botswanas track team heroes welcome following World Athletics Championships

The team represented the southern African country at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, which ended Sunday. Botswana’s 4×400 relay team of Lee Eppie, Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori and Coleen Kebinatshipi made history by claiming the first ever gold medal after piping United States with South Africa coming up second. In his welcoming speech at the airport, Botswana’s Minister of Sport and Arts, Jacob Kelebeng received the boys with great joy and vanity the team’s outstanding and historic performance and unwavering dedication have brought immense pride to the nation and inspired many across Botswana.

“We will have series of public engagements and these events are designed to give every Motswana an opportunity to meet, celebrate and interact with our athletes. And we believe that these engagements will not only strengthen community spirit but also unite us in our shared love for sport and national pride. Following their stellar performance, the team has been rewarded with the total sum of $105 000 as per the incentives and rewards policy,” Kelebeng said.
