Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is in Mozambique at the invitation of President Daniel Chapo, following his attendance at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The visit builds on discussions earlier this month at COP30, where both leaders agreed to strengthen collaboration in agriculture, education, health, entrepreneurship, and efforts against organised crime.
Upon arriving in Maputo, Lula da Silva emphasised Brazil’s willingness to support Mozambique in areas such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, bio-fuel projects, food security, and skills training.
This marks his fourth visit to Mozambique and comes as the two Portuguese-speaking nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.
Wilker Diaz, Executive Director of Democracy and Development in Mozambique, said the visit could open doors for new investment and development opportunities.
“Lula’s visit highlights the strong ties between our countries and the potential for co-operation in sectors that can directly benefit the people of Mozambique,” Diaz said.
